2019 HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION
57% 80yo grenache, 33% 28yo shiraz, 10% 4yo mourvédre, blended after fermentation, matured for 15 months in French oak (15% new). Each of the three varieties contributes to this medium-bodied, well balanced wine. Shiraz is likely responsible for the tannins that provide both texture and structure, mourvédre adding a savoury flourish. Convincing wine. Rating 93 Cellar To 2030

WINE ORBIT REVIEW BY SAM KIM, SEPT 2019
Pontifex Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2016, Barossa Valley, 95
The wine is instantly appealing on the nose showing dark fruit richness together with smoked game, mixed spice, mushroom and leather notes, followed by a succulent palate that’s fleshy and expansive. It’s brilliantly framed by fine-grained tannins, finishing impressively long and engaging. At its best: now to 2026.

Offering fabulous fruit purity with seductive complexity, the wine shows black/blueberry, vanilla, toasted almond, floral and subtle spice aromas on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate that’s refined and beautifully flowing. It’s splendidly fruited and texturally delightful, making it hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2030.

Sweetly fruited and richly expressed, the bouquet shows blackberry, dark cherry, cocoa, cake spice and cedar characters. The palate delivers excellent weight and succulent fruit intensity, wonderfully supported by silky texture and polished tannins. It’s delectable and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2026.

Machine and hand-picked, machine berry-sorted, 10% whole bunches, matured in French oak (30% new) for 12 months. Opulent, full-bodied richness controlled by fine tannins and a well judged savour finish, chiefly ex tannins. Made the most of the vintage. Rating Gold 95 points

WINEWISE SHIRAZ REVIEW 4 September 2019
The spicy red fruits nose has a floral hint to it, as well as nuances of dark chocolate. Delicious varietal flavour floods the length of a delightfully supple palate.

THE WINEFRONT REVIEW BY CAMPBELL MATTINSON, 18/11/2019
Heavy bottle, corporate branding, warm-hearted style.
There’s a lot of grunt here. It’s a rush of asphalt, malt, blackberry and coal, a gently spicy/savoury aspect helping to spread the load. It feels substantial and is set firmly with tannin. Alcohol warmth dances across the finish but as a whole the wine remains stylish and neat, a fair achievement when you consider its bulk.

WINE ORBIT REVIEW BY SAM KIM, SEPT 2019
Shiraz 2017, Barossa Valley, 94
This is gorgeously ripe and perfumed on the nose showing Black Doris plum, blackberry, anise, thyme and dark chocolate notes, leading to a wonderfully weighted palate that’s supple and velvety. Harmonious, flavoursome and very long on the finish. At its best: now to 2027.
